The Magdelaine Cays - Tricolour (Single)

The Magdelaine Cays - Tricolour (Single)

Diffusion Records

Hailing from Sheffield, The Magdelaine Cays are blatantly hoping to find their way out of the little steel mecca that has birthed some of the finest acts in recent memory. It's no easy task to try and make your way out, [I'm sure] but with tracks like 'Tricolour' there is more than a hint that, with some hard work and perseverance there is a place out there for The Madelaine Cays.

'Tricolour' reminds me of early-era Ash with it's spikiness and brash punky attitude to the flaying guitars and feedback drenched atmosphere whilst the vocals are of a late 70's mould [in that they really are required to be equally noisy and rough just to gel with the track].

The one thing that maybe lets 'Tricolour' down is that there are so many other songs out there that sound so much like it that it's going to have to be draped in naked ladies with the addition of shiny musical bells to truly stand-out from the many, many others. Maybe that's something to thing about in future - shiny musical bells!
