The Virgins - One Week Of Danger [Single]

The Virgins - One Week Of Danger [Single]

Atlantic

'The Virgins' is a suitably juvenile name for a suitably juvenile and immature band. I'm sure it's all very trendy and clever if your in on the joke but to me this song sounds like a complete mess, like the Dandy Warhols covering Jet in a vacuum. Everything from the monotonous beat to the "woo woo" backing vocal screams lack of effort, though The Virgins are ostensibly the kind of band who would see this as a compliment.

I'm not averse to fun, dumb pop songs as long as there's a decent hook that I can really connect with but I find myself struggling to remember the chorus and I've played the song 5 times in a row now. The production is rough and so 80's it hurts (if I hear one more song in the next couple of hours that sounds like it was beamed in from the decade taste forgot I might just have to recede into hibernation until this vacuous fad hit's the dirt) and front-man Donald Cumming possesses a voice devoid of either personality, melody or conviction.

This kind of smug, semi-ironic hipster rock really needs to disappear up it's own arsehole before we all become victims of our own self satisfaction.

On the plus side I bet the NME will lap this shit up.
