Wesayso Records (Out Now)
I'll be honest pop-punk is not a genre that I care for, partly due to it's predictability and partly due to the scene it brings to itself (if you've been to rock/metal gigs over the past 3 or 4 years you'll know EXACTLY what I mean!)
Serpico from Scotland however do try to break the monotony of this on their debut album. They are currently touring with Inme and they can be seen as a definite influence (touring with Wednesday 13 however, like most of his support is purely business reasons. Hell Wednesday said that about Glamour Of the Kill to me!) with the structure being similar to 'Overgrown Eden' with it's concept of society gone mad and what not.
Mikey Serpico (probably not his real last name, if so not a bad last name considering the only other Serpico is a fictional serial killer in Dirty Harry) sounds very similar to his peers in Lostprophets and does the typical slightly American accent (despite being Scottish!) that nearly EVERY SINGLE POP-PUNK band does and it makes me angry every single time.
I digress. Musically the band can play catchy tunes such as 'Kultura', '400 blows to the head' which show some promise and will get the kids dancing... it also showcases that the guitarist knows how to solo!
For me however, I don't see myself listening to this on a regular basis, it's just too much of the same for me to care. Fans of Madina Lake and Kill Hannah will care no doubt and should definitely check Serpico out.
