Sebrok - Vision [EP]

Europe, over time, has given us hundreds, if not thousands of techno artists, I suppose Kraftwerk would be a brilliant example of this, but as I said, there are countless others. All these producers/artists seem to be trying to conquer the music industry with an arsenal of Synthesizers, samplers and drum machines. Today’s music has gone extremely technological and very computer orientated, and although this is brilliant news for the artists and DJ’s trying to get their work out there and make a name for themselves, with so many of these generic artists popping up left, right and centre, its pretty hard to tell the difference. New ideas are growing scares.

Sebrok is a name that hundreds of DJ’s, Mixers and producers are probably familiar with. Having been creating music since the age of 16, it's no surprise that this new release from Sebrok, the Berlin based artist, titled ‘Vision’, is going to go down a storm with this following of artists and dance fanatics alike. However, I fail to see it being anything new to artists and listeners outside the genres mentioned. Like I said, DJ’s and Dance music in general are always bringing new ideas our way, this doesn’t seem to be the case with 'Vision' for the most part.

‘Vision’ is absolutely packed with some brilliant drum loops and beats, covered with some of the heaviest drone bass lines out there today. It seems to take some kind of influence from all walks of dance life, everything from trance to techno seems to have had an influence on this EP, as well as some great production techniques to set it off. Don’t get me wrong, its goes without saying that this is the result of hard work and an understanding of what it takes to make good grooves, but its hard to imagine this being played in any other environment than that of a Saturday night club. I have no doubt in my mind that if this piece of work was played in a club on a night out then people would welcome it with open arms. In fact I’m sure people would go nuts to this.

Being a training producer myself, I can appreciate this for what it is. A brilliant example of high level of musical understanding and superb knowledge of music production. There’s no doubt here that this is dance music at its best, but I feel that a fan of traditional pop / dance / mainstream music will over look this as a short CD in which every song blends into one.

Now I know this sounds very negative and extremely pessimistic but unlike a lot of music that’s out there these days, I think ‘Vision’ would only appeal to a small portion of the masses, and as the way of world goes, this is probably, and most unfortunately a piece of work that is going to be over looked by a lot of people and wont get appreciated for what it is.

pretty good review.
you seem open minded to electronic music, which is good from someone coming from a "mainstream" mindset.
i think that electronic music has always progressed to something new, slowly and technically, as producers get to grips with new technology, new sounds, new ideas and most importantly new production techniques.
within electronic music it is hard to pin down groundbreaking "new" music, as the genre as a whole is always slowly progressing towards something inherently different.
even relatively new genres like dubstep, electro-house, and space disco are actually just a progression from other genres.
that is what makes electronic music so exciting and modern, i think anyway.
it is ever changing and ever morphing, very subtely.
that is its inherent beauty.........

Yeah with this kind of music its good cos people are not only impressed with the sounds but they need to know how it was made if you know what i mean, that why i think it is likely to go down well with producers.
'Space disco'? Never heard of that but that sounds well awesome to be honest, You got any recomendations of any space disco bands i could look into, sounds really interesting cheers

COCOON.NET is probably a good place to start.
the finest purveyors of all things techno/tech-house/space disco
and led by the legend that is Sven Vath.
space disco is kind of like modern disco. without the vocals and without the cheese......
