Having reviewed Trips debut album “Short Cuts” already this year, I knew exactly what to expect from Trip’s latest single release, probably because I had heard the song somewhere before.
For those of you that don’t know, Trip is a much hyped UK lyricist named Alex Child. His album, from which this single is taken, is described as a “tragic-comic kaleidoscope of city life as seen through the eyes of a 24 year old Londoner” and this single is no different. Sounding much like The Streets, Trip straddles the genres of Rock, Rap and Pop. His songs are very well produced and full of excellent little sound effects and skits, 'Who’s That' is a prime example of all of this.
Trip certainly has a future ahead of him, and probably has quite a large fan base already. He carries a good dose of humour throughout all of his music and certainly does not take himself too seriously, which is probably a good thing in the current music business.
'Who’s That' was, and is, not the strongest song from 'Shortcuts' by far but has strangely been released as a single anyway. It carries a line, that is often repeated that grates on you after a while [well for me anyway], “Who’s that sitting at the Bus stop?”.
The real pity here though, is that the single contains three tracks that are all the same, only marginally different. Included are the “Radio Edit – Clean”, “Album Version – Explicit”, and “Album Version – Clean”. The explicit version is probably the funniest of the lot, but if you were to listen to all the tracks you would be “Who’d” out until next year easily.
