Paul Steel - In A Coma [Single]
 

Paul Steel makes as near perfect a pop racket as it's possible to get without breaking into Brian Wilson's garden and stealing his lucky underpants. There isn't a hint of (despite the title) unhappiness or boredom as for Mr. Steel it seems, the idea is to take as many joyous harmonies and melodies, mix them together and project the rainbow onto disc.

'In A Coma' sounds like the Super Furry Animals having a wild old orgy with Dogs Die In Hot Cars whilst the previously mentioned Brian Wilson does a spot of dogging from outside the window. Hand claps - check, tinkling ivories - check, Costello vocals - check, flippin' bells - check, and more squiggles and squirts of musical abandon in-between.

Oh and the pay-off just adds that little touch of comedic class.

I do know what you mean but I like it as a pop record that's not ashamed to be that way and I'd much rather listen to this than any of that bubblegum pop that generally pollutes the airwaves. If this came on the radio when I was in the car it would cheer me up.

To be honest that is just being stupidly arsey and I'll continue to use the () variety of brackets as it really makes no difference... as for the picture well I was always under the impression that the artwork of the release is the image that should be used not some bloke with a beard but maybe that's just me.

Nice one on the square brackets Jack, I always change that and well done on noticing. Your editing gets better and better every day. Maybe one day you will be as anal about it all as I am! As for the pic, Mark is right on that one, we should always show the single artwork wherever possible.

Valid comment but the only size i could find on the interweb for the image of the single cover was 120 px or something.
