OK now this is quite a baffling little duo of tracks as they are very much distant from each other; which of course is no bad thing at all, but a little oddly is the idea to go with '
Christine' as the lead track because to me it sounds like Starsailor meddling with some Burrito Brothers with much more added melancholy. This may all sound a little frightening but generally it does work as a track even though it sounds like it's from another era. The overall galloping feel and the Nick Cave-esque vocals give a deep richness.
Back to my point though of it being odd to put
'Christine' as the lead because '
Apple Falls' is certainly the more up-tempo and groove based track which you could picture people hearing and taking a shine to which with '
Christine' it would be hard to do. '
Apple Falls', however; is straight forward Neil Diamond with a rocket up his ass rock, driving forward with a wondrous beat and some delightful vocal play that makes you kinda wonder who was singing the first track as the vocals are more immediate but then I guess so is the track.
A nice little collection of two very differing tracks hopefully a sign that
Magic & Fur have plenty more tricks up their sleeve for future releases.
