Spinnerette Electric Ballroom, London [Live] Stumbling out of the tube station at Camden, after a couple of long hours sitting and sweating with excitement on the train, I try to find the prestigious Electric Ballroom. Looking around at the busy streets, I spy a line of mohawked, pin cushioned and tattooed ladies sitting in an ironically ordered queue, and I know I'm in the right place. Although Spinnerette is completely different to The Distillers, the fans are mostly Brody Dalle obsessed and more than open minded about her new sound. Everyone in the line is beyond excited but the hub of the crowd is nothing in comparison to the explosive atmosphere inside. After brilliant support by Freeland in which Brody stepped in to get the crowd roaring Spinnerette eventually hit the stage. The crowd erupts, girls cry and men jeer, but nothing detracts from the music. The incredible, confused, heartbroken music comes blaring from the immaculately accurate speakers. For the next hour or so, Spinnerette play their asses off. I was too busy jumping and screaming adorations to be able to tell you what order the set was as , but I can tell you they covered all the album material, and that it was a different order to the Manchester gig. This is the third time I have seen Spinnerette and it was, undoubtedly, the best. The crowd were relentless and had so much spirit, they pushed Spinnerette to be bigger, better and rougher. This is exactly how Spinnerette are supposed to sound. Tony Bevilacqua, the ever present but often overlooked guitarist also of Distillers fame, gave another note perfect performance alongside the touring band, and touring guitarist Bryan Tulao held his own against a frenzied crowd. Highlights were the incestuous Sex Bomb which benefits from a raunchy guitar riff and a fantastic, catchy chorus which the crowd screamed back at the stage like a sexually frustrated mob, and my personal favourite All Babe are Wolves which, due to it's unstoppable beat and strong vocals, was an instant hit with the loyal fans. In the aftermath of the album reviews, some of which have doubted Brody Dalle's new sound, Spinnerette have come out kicking with a raw energy that's lacking in other bands. Not to mention Brody Dalle's voice: Rock and Roll has has simply been duller without her growl and exceptionally beautiful lyrics. I am aware I sound like a love struck kid, but in some instances reading a review is simply not enough you have to be there. To make up for the fact that you missed an incredible night, I will let you in on a secret: A female 'friend of mine' pissed in a pint glass to avoid missing any of Spinnerette's heartfelt, heart pumping set. That's how good they were. Spinnerette really did make my heart beat faster. |
Nice review, wish I was there! Still couldn't pee in a pint glass in public, no matter how good it was... :D |
Re: Spinnerette Electric Ballroom, London [Live] Just wondering what your mate did with it? Don't tell me she threw it over the crowd? Ewww. |
Re: Spinnerette Electric Ballroom, London [Live] 'She' *ahem* did indeed throw it on the crowd. Had to be done. I got it all on my best friend as well...who bought me the ticket...she was very understanding and fully supportive of the event. I do not regret it for a second as they played my favourite track shortly after, which I would have missed if I had been polite and ladylike. |
Re: Spinnerette Electric Ballroom, London [Live] Oh. Haha it was you all along. Nice use of an imaginative third person there. You had me fooled. |

I was being serious and not sarcastic. Just a note though if this was a response from Heron it probably owuld be sarcastic. |
Re: Spinnerette Electric Ballroom, London [Live] How did you piss in a cup in the middle of a crowd? Did you drop your pants and squat? |
Re: Spinnerette Electric Ballroom, London [Live] Maybe she had a 'Shewee' |
