Unsigned
I remember tapes, do you? Video tapes were probably more annoying than tape cassettes due to their persistence in floor noise and that low quality crackling. But anyway, these tapes are in the form of four human beans, based in Winchester and are surprisingly unsigned.
'C45' Ep works well on many levels. For an unsigned band to release a EP, it has to be good. Showcasing your music and getting us critics creating some hype around them. Taking the name of the EP "C45" into question though; what the hell does that mean? Sounds like a car parking space. Maybe we will never know. What we do know is I Remember Tapes haven't been messing around and this EP is kicking up a good stink. It won't be too long before NME are all over these like tight jeans.
Although 'C45' has been produced by the same chaps that brought us One Night Only, there is a new feel to it's production. It sounds like a demo, but just has an extra spark of creativity and quality. 'All I Know' starts everything cracking off with a vocal not too short of Morrissey being fingered by Battle. "I Know, I Know" is belted across a screen of harmonized robot effect sounding voices. Along with a cracking breakdown of guitars being strangled by cats then machine gunned down by a bass kick (note that these are actually all good things). I fear that it is not their strongest material on the EP, so why the hell they have popped it up as the opening track I have no idea. The strongest of the three is "Cold", with a killer bass line, funeral for a friend's "Street Car" style finger pull-offs and a vocally rich wall of sound. The drummer twats through the track with a heavy foot and fast tumbling beats that give an extra possession to I Remember Tapes' sound.
I Remember Tapes are four lads that know exactly what they want musically, and it definitely shows on C45 EP. This is music with their own unique personality included. I suspect we will be hearing a lot more from these in the near future.
Tracks to listen to: "Cold"
Tracks:
1. All I Know
2. Indecisive
3. Cold
