Anyone who's taken the time to delight themselves with Grammatics self-titled debut album will no doubt be aware that it is a delicious slab of disorientation that perceives to get under the skin and with 'Murderer' it's very much a case of mission accomplished.
'Murderer' is a taut slow grower of a track that gradually builds on the drumbeat and the gentle haunting vocals of Owen Brinley that's cut through with staple sounds of bands such as Bloc Party and Biffy but with a uniqueness. It all creates an exotic blend that's incredibly arresting. It's almost like something that you've never heard before and that is a huge compliment as it's a rare thing to find these days. Grammatics just seem to have this distinctive sound that can only be found in themselves. It's a delirious blend of the hypnotic, the almost prog-over-the-top symphony, the cathartic riffing, and the unsettling queasiness.
Grammatics sound cannot be summed up in 'Murderer' alone it's merely a facet to their personality but it shows a depth and understanding of a tune and a way to unseat the listener that not many bands can boast. Murderer EP tracklisting:
