Kochka are well up for it, that much is certain. These four Glasgow based characters abound with enthusiasm for their craft and that shows on this, their second EP.

Opener 'Cowards and Kings' actually starts off like a bouncy cover version of The Knife's 'Heartbeats' (okay, okay - José González's more famous version then) but heads off in it's own direction, which happily enough is an enjoyable, echoey indie journey full of unexpected twists and turns.

Next up is 'Dacha (In The Summer)', which makes this reviewer want to get his Rumba on in some poorly lit club, all wasted on sugary cocktails. There's a real hip swinging feel to it, which no doubt makes it a live favourite and, one imagines a hell if a lot of fun to play.

'Memory Box / Personal Effects' is all kinds of quirky with vocals that verge on the bizarre but manage to come off as endearing as opposed to annoying. A nice trick. Interesting to say the very least, and like nothing else you're likely to hear out there right now. Maybe if you got that lead singer from JJ72 to cover some Divine Comedy you might be getting close. Weird - but good weird. Donnelly's vocal styling won't be for everyone but it certainly grabs the attention.

The EP finishes with 'Black Cat' and it is the heaviest tune on offer with the guitars distorted up a treat, but starting off with a deceptive 70's funk rhythm guitar line and wooden block intro before blasting into some fast changes and Pixies-esk screeching. It should be too much but somehow it isn't and keeps you coming back not just to this song, but the whole EP, just to see if you really heard what you thought you heard.

If you're looking for a departure from the standard indie template then give Dacha a listen - Kochka might just be the band you've been waiting for.
