Paolo Nutini - Coming Up Easy [Single]
 

Taken from his second album 'Sunny Side Up', 'Coming Up Easy' is Paolo Nutini's successful attempt to lift up the soullessness of everyday hit parade pop. Though you might argue about whether or not the song is representative for his latest album, as he covers basically all musical genres on ‘Sunny Side Up‘. As a single 'Coming up Easy' is quite enjoyable; it's pop enough to get played on radio stations and soul enough to outshine the releases of contemporary hit successes.

In structure and rhythm it's a typical everyday pop song, though it lacks the catchy hooks to become a real signature hit. Making up for this is the accompanying brass band and the raw, passionate voice of the 22 year old which makes it a real treat. Again, you might argue, this time about whether this is soul or pop, but there's one thing you can't argue about; Paolo Nutini's passion. During the end of the song there's just so much energy coming out of the youngster that you get the feeling he is trying his best to get to the top of the world and hitting the big time.

If there is ever someone who's going to tear apart all the neo soul prophets who pretend to be the new sexual healing it's going to be Paolo Nutini. Everyone in showbiz can cover up his or hers non-talent, but it's the passion, or the chronic lack of it, that always shines through. And as previously mentioned, when it comes to passion, Paolo Nutini beats them all.

A nice opinion, but you're going a bit too far to compare Nutini with James Blunt. Paolo Nutini is at least able to sing in a not- annoying way.
And this single comparing to you're beautiful (to name just one song) would be like comparing the holy grail to a fresh bag of shit.

Except his voice is extremely annoying. In fact to me it is even more annoying than James Blunt's because it is even more fake and 'put on'.

It's all music for female 30-somethings who like to put it on such CD's after a particularly heart-warming episode of Friends,or whilst their girlfriends are over to share a few bottles of Echo Falls rose.

And to think I once saw you challenge this site for covering music that you felt went against it's 'alternative' stance.

I was talking about some britney spears reviews...I mean come on, britney spears... she has nothing to do with music.

Nutini is not the God of alternative rock or anything, but at least he still beats britney spears...

And he beats all these sad little 'we're different but we sound completely the same as everyone else' bands too. With their original fuck everyone attitude and forced angriness.
