These days the music industry is plagued with artists aiming to be the next new thing, all of which are looking to what the future of music can offer rather than looking back to the good old days for hints and tips (even though, in my opinion this isn’t a bad thing at all). Once in a while a group will come along and take us back to the roots of Rock and Roll. Ladies and gentlemen… I give you The Jokers.

Since forming in 2006, The Jokers have snowballed from one success to the next. In the period of just 3 years or so, they have had plenty of radio play (including the Bruce Dickenson show on BBC Radio 6), played venues that include Nottingham’s Rock City and the famous London Astoria, not to mention other achievements.

Sounding more like an 80’s classic rock band from the US of A rather than the Liverpool based band that they actually are, The Jokers have brought the best of Rock and Roll's past into the present day with their debut release ‘The Big Rock and Roll Show’.

This debut album has kept it very simple but effective, keeping true to Rock and Roll with guitar centric songs, accompanied with catchy lyrics anyone could sing along to. Each track has a gritty feel to it, as would be expected due to the fact that it was mixed by Mike Fraser, the man who has worked with legends such as Van Halen and Aerosmith. 'The Big Rock and Roll Show' has a good mix of moods and tempos, the opener ‘V.I.B.E’, is a rock classic from the get go, lighting the way for the rest of the album to follow, whereas the slower and melodic ‘Ocean of Kings’ is sure to have you waving you lighter in the air in no time. These tracks as well as 9 others add up to make a musical classic and an enjoyable listen for all.

When it comes to The Jokers, you get exactly what you pay for, good old Rock and Roll. 'The Big Rock and Roll Show' does exactly what it says on the tin, it is a collection of songs that takes us away from the electro and pop records that we hear everyday these days, and reminds us of the greatness of what music used to be.
