Hellsaw- Cold [Album]

Hellsaw- Cold [Album]

Napalm Records

Hellsaw's 'Cold' is one of those albums that seems to start with a very Opeth direction with the very long intro for 'A Suicide Journey' but then suddenly turns into a Death Metal style assault on the ears with the usual formula of screaming vocals, blast beat drums and low tuned guitars and bass.

Normally I'd be well up for this and stating how well it works for them but in the case of Hellsaw it comes off as very repetitive and clichéd with songs about going to Hell ('I Saw Hell'), aching in pain ('Ache') and suicide ('A Suicide Journey'). 'Psycho Pastor' recovers from this a little and has some form of originality with it's content topic and it kind of reminds me of Dimmu Borgir's last album.

The music itself that Hellsaw makes is good but at points it does feel like the vocalist does need to catch his breath which is why they suddenly jump into either a small interlude or a guitar solo. It just seems overall that 'Cold' is an album that only the most hardcore of Dark and Death Metal will fully enjoy but patience is required.
