Being featured on Sunday Best the record label offering from the much publicised Rob da Bank means that Bastila are set for success.
'Ghosts' is a dreamy, guitar led, atmospheric track that sits in a sea of reverb, delay and echo and has more than a nod to the Psychedelic Progressive Rock movement. In fairness Psychedelic Progressive Rock doesn’t get much exposure these days even with the success of bands like Muse and to some extent Elbow, but Bastila are at the forefront of this sound.
'Ghosts' features two remixes that take the progressive feel even closer to a dance feel and both are well reworked and well produced. The two remixes in question are the Skipping Dub Version and the Summer of Love Remix. The Original take and the Skipping Dub versions stand out the most on 'Ghosts'. With the originals dreamy landscape comparing well with the clean, beat fused sound of the Skipping Dub Version.
There is some lovely call and response vocal work throughout 'Ghosts' and I cannot help but feel that there is a lot more to come from this band. I am sure they will play some day time festivals and really get the crowd into that “joyful spirit of knees up in the sun” and I really cannot wait to hear the full album. I am sure it will be full of surprises, twists, cloudy atmospheric musical sceneries and nicely produced organic elements, fused together into a dreamy landscape that evokes euphoric sun drenched poppy fields or something of that sort anyway.
