Only Thieves- Greetings From Levy Park [EP] 1 Attachment(s) Recent articles that I've read elsewhere seem to state that guitar bands seem to be coming back onto the music labels radar after the great electro-pop blitz of earlier this year. Bands like The Big Pink, The Chapman Family, Invasion! are all making the magazines and in the latter two's cases they remain unsigned and are growing through the word of mouth cult mentality that has been sorely missed. Only Thieves however haven't been on the lips of the labels and others and after listening to their "Greetings From Levy Park" EP the question seems to be why haven't they? When an EP starts with a track called 'Hammered for the Holidays' and showcasing how a guy gets wrecked and later remembering what happened it does hark back to the days of the early Oasis / Britpop era (despite the guys being from Florida) with the guitars and other instruments sounding as raw as they can be. "Greetings from Levy Park" does have faults however, the main being the themes of woe is me which does get a bit repetitive by the third song however, 'Ghost in your room' becomes the highlight of the EP as it combines a mixture of surf rock and Interpol in a short, sharp 3:32 radio friendly burst. 'Does this bus stop at 8th Avenue' ends the EP off in a more Sonic Youth style adding a brand new mix to the Only Thieves sound. The EP overall shows that Only Thieves do have the potential to be a really great band, it's just a case of wait and see if a label will pick them up more than anything otherwise they risk getting lost in the shuffle. ![]() |
I'll give this one a go, sounds promising... |
Re: Only Thieves- Greetings From Levy Park [EP] sweet review, I like the spoof cover of Springsteen's 1st album. I might have to give this a try |
