The Hot Melts - Red Lips [Single] Well hello Mr.Guitar! What you are about to experience is roughly 3 minutes 13 seconds of quite blistering in your face guitar. Some of it will make your head nod in quite unforgiving approval whilst some of it will create a kind of mushy fuzz in that space between your ears. Generally it's all rather how fast and thrashy can we make it without becoming some kind of Metallica or god forbid some kind of The Darkness! So 'Red Lips' gives us guitars [as I think I've managed to establish] but we also get the general staple of all punk rock 'n' roll hybrids to go along with it. What I am referring to is of course monstrous drum patterns and a bass-line so thick you could drive an Arctic Lorry across it all. These elements are coupled together with rather evocative lyrics, which if you have a little peek at the controversy baiting video below you will get the jist of. The vocals are screamed / sang in that all so easy-peasy get-it-out-of-your-system-mate manner. 'Red Lips' is fast and it's furious, however luckily for everyone it does not feature Vin Diesel. Re: The Hot Melts - Red Lips [Single] Nice review, and I doubly appreciate the video link so we can get an idea of the song ourselves, but the review compliments it well (And, let's face it, the less of Vin Diesel anyone sees, the better!) Also, I get the sneaky feeling that video must have been so much fun for the band to shoot, one of those "They're paying us for this? We should be paying them!" moments... Might well hunt down the album now |
