Well, what can I say about Blazin’ Squad?
You probably remember them as being a bunch of kids singing annoying songs you loved to hate, the biggest being ‘Crossroads’ at the start of the millennium. As irritating as that song was it did push them into the spotlight at a very young age. Blazin' Squad were something of a success story at first. Forming in 2000, Blazin' Squad's first record was released on their own record label. I will give it to them though that’s a great thing to have achieved before you have even sat your GCSE’s. Then after a short run of successes and one big hit single they just disappeared.
Blazin’ Squad seem to be attempting to make a comeback this year, as the title of this ('Let's Start Again'), their newest single, would have us believe. However, Blazin' Squad don’t seem to be offering anything new. It does seem that their music has grown up a little as they themselves have done, but their music hasn’t evolved into anything new. It just sounds like generic R&B that could be heard on any radio station. If Blazin' Squad are in fact trying to sound like the countless artists we already have (and a few good ones too I might add), then Blazin’ Squad have accomplished this. As for being anything more than this, I really don’t see it. 'Let's Start Again' is so average that it doesn’t even stick in your head (and I’ve had to hear it at least a couple of times in the last hour). I will say one good thing though from a training music producers point of view, I can appreciate that there is something good in the production of the music on this release, unfortunately for Blazin' Squad that’s about it.
I can see 'Let's Start Again' going down well with a few R&B fans and artists but I wouldn’t expect it to be around for a long period of time. If you were a fan of Blazin' Squad the first time around then no matter what I say here, you are going to check it out but as I have said countless times don’t expect to hear anything new. I pride myself on at least being able to see the good in most music even if I’m not a fan of that artist or genre but, as you can see, there’s very little good to hear here.
