I’m just going to come right out and say it. Whatever inspired Surfaces in their lives to write this kind of music must have been pretty damn horrible!

Surfaces heavy and twisted style is pure scream metal energy. From the first seconds of the opening track ‘Voices and Lies’ the listener is thrown into a spiral of tank like drums and ridiculously low, ‘thud-like’ drop-tuned guitars. The screaming vocals are beyond recognition with it being a massive challenge to even understand if the singer is speaking English or not. If it were not for the fact that there were a few seconds that my speakers could take a break of silence I probably wouldn’t have even known one song had ended and another had begun. Personally, I’m not a fan of Death Metal so its no surprise this wasn’t up my street in any way shape or form at all.

If you are looking for songs that have definite structure and a little bit of sense that you are able to understand then walk right on by and keep looking as you definitely won't find it here. However, if you are after mindless screams and senseless chaos that sounds like it might be sung by the those old Steven Spielberg Gremlins then you may have what you been looking for since those famous 80s movies right here!

I personally don’t see how this could be classed as good entertainment at all but like I said, I’m also not a fan of Death Metal or anything that sounds like car parts in a blender to be honest. I do like to think there is a market out there for all the kinds of music the world has to offer so I like to think that there may be a market out there for Surfaces somewhere. I just find it really hard to imagine where and how. Maybe these guys come over better live?
