I’ll admit, when I first heard You Me At Six about two years ago I wasn’t a fan. I thought their music was boring and had no major hooks. But as of late, You Me At Six seem to have grown into a decent band with each of their singles being just as good as the last.
‘Kiss and Tell’ is a good quality pop-punk song. It has catchy hooks, quirky guitar riffs and a different breakdown to what you might expect in a pop-punk song like this. Their album, however, doesn’t follow suit, as these songs are featured on the delux version of their previously released album ‘Take Off Your Colours’. God knows why they’re releasing the same album again with five new songs on it, they may as well just release a new album right?! In the long run, I think that would have been a better choice considering that ‘Take Off Your Colours’ isn’t actually that good.
You Me At Six are a band that releases the good songs off their album but then the rest of the album falls short of impressive. However with a new album comes a new direction, so if You Me At Six keep making songs this good maybe their next album could be the ‘Abbey Road’ of our generation? I highly doubt that, but ‘Kiss and Tell’ is definitely worth a listen if you’re a fan of bands like Kids In Glass Houses, Blink 182 and the usual suspects of pop-punk.
I do urge you, please don’t waste your money on the deluxe version of ‘Take Off Your Colours’, it’s just a lazy band’s way of saying “we don’t want to release another album, nor do we want to release a new EP but we do want to cash in on our music more.”
