Diskjokke - Rosenrod [Single]

Diskjokke - Rosenrod [Single]

Moshi Moshi Music

I've always wondered how the Scandinavians might review British music (Adopts Swedish Chefs accent): "dose Kaizer Cheevs make a grate rackett, it sounds like Big Ben shagging Maggie Thatcher. Maybe the qveen listens to them whilst riding her horse to Buckingham House". Or something of that ilk. Diskjokke front man Joachim Dyrdahl is a classically trained musician and DJ from Norway and one of the things he is most known for is the fact that he has remixed Bloc Party. I'm going to fight the temptations of cliché by not mentioning fjords, snow or death metal in the rest of this review - unlike the Guardian.

Like Danish counterpart Anders Trentmoller, Drydahl would appear to specialise in the kind of melodic techno that provides a perfect antidote to the current trend of in-your-face electro bounce. 'Rosenrod' is more classically schooled, building from it's early Aphex-like acid burps and sparse melodic pulse into a warmly panoramic glow which should please fans of Ulrich Schnauss and delight producers of wildlife documentaries alike.

Additional track 'The Bund' (that's a district of Shanghai, folks!) is slightly less accessible, with more drone and less melody but both songs point to debut album "Staying In" being worth doing just that for.
