August 27th 2009, Support The Dead Formats and The Young Guns
Lost Prophets have had a phenomenal track record. Their first album ‘The Fake Sound Of Progress’ put them on the map here in the UK. Their second, ‘Start Something’ made them international icons and superstars, and their third ‘Liberation Transmission’ went to number one in the charts. Not bad going for a bunch of lads from a small town in the Welsh Valleys.
Despite this success and countless other achievements, they still manage to squeeze in a few pre-festival [Reading and Leeds] warm up shows for the fans that got them where they are today.
Even before Lost Prophets stepped foot on to the stage the room was electric with energy, largely credited to the tremendous efforts of The Dead Formats and The Young Guns. Both support bands were out in full force, giving it they’re all, energizing the crowd and making it their own show, in their own way.
After both bands provided a 25-30 minute set, there was nothing left but anticipation in the air. A sea of fists were being thrown in the air covered by the chants of thousands. The room was packed from wall to wall with fans of all ages. As the lights went out and the room went dark a thunderous raw from the crowd was unleashed, enough to give anyone goosebumps. The room was simply electric as the Lost Prophets stepped out onto the stage.
Opening with the 1st track off their last album, ‘Everyday Combat’, a true crowd anthem and motivator, the adrenalin was surging through the room from the first note. After playing three songs right through non-stop there was no going back, the show was in full swing, you could feel the power and the energy in the room was at a max right now.
Crowd interaction was at a maximum from The Lost Prophets as it always is at every show. The gig just jumped between a rock show and something of a comedy act as the music titans unleash their signature welsh humour to the crowd, resulting in hysterical roars of laughter. The show was full of well-received surprises and treat for the fans. The band unveiled a selection of about 3 songs to us from their new album, expected to be released later this year. Judging by the crowd’s reaction to the new additions to the bands hit list, the next album should be just as, if not bigger than the number one record ‘Liberation Transmission’. As an added bonus to the new songs, the band welcomed to the stage their very own camera man in order to film the music video for their forthcoming single. This of course caused the crowed to go insane, resulting in an army of people climbing shoulders and crowd surfing to get on film. This show was also an unveiling of the band’s new drummer, who I will say, was very impressive on the kit. To top it all off, the welcomed guest vocals from The Young Guns and The Dead Formats as well as a surprise visit from Chino of The Deftones, capped the show off perfectly. Closing with ‘Burn Burn’, the show drew to a close on just as much of a high as it had opened with.
The Lost Prophets are known for their live shows being out of this world. Being a huge fan myself since the release of their first album, I have attended a number of their shows over the past few years and one thing has remained the same, they never cease to amaze. They always give it everything they have and then some. As mentioned, their new album sounds like it’s going to be a musical monster and I myself cant wait to get my hands on it.
With their new album coming out this year, a tour is going to happen and I suggest you be there when it hits if you get the chance you wont be disappointed!
