Mind Odyssey, founded back in 1993, is a German progressive metal band. They released several albums back in the 90’s but disbanded towards the end of the decade. 10 years later and a reformation has resulted in "Time To Change It". cMind Odyssey are very self indulgent as "Time To Change It" is littered with various solos and instrumentation. The vocals are well performed and follow the typical progressive metal sound.
I am not the biggest fan of this style of music and at times when listening to "Time To Change It" I find myself thinking that I am listening to a lesser quality Dream Theatre. So on a plus point, if you like Dream Theatre you will like Mind Odyssey. The production on "Time To Change It" is very good and the musicianship and level of competency within Mind Odyssey is very apparent. There is no doubting their ability.
There is a mixture of chuggy metal riffs, ballads, blistering solo’s and power metal vocals. I can’t doubt the quality of "Time To Change It" but I can’t seem to take it as seriously as I should either. It just sounds like it belongs in the 80’s and sadly, unlike a lot of modern music, which has adopted the attributes of the 80’s and made something very cool that fits in to the modern market, Mind Odyssey have not.
"Time To Change It" is a solidly produced album and the songs are of good quality and well performed, but for me there is no spark of magic there. If you like this style of music then you will probably already be aware of Mind Odyssey and will enjoy "Time To Change It" but don’t expect anything seminal.
