Face The Unkown's self titled EP represents one of those moments where it’s slightly difficult to find any information on the band in question. Leaving me with the only option being to look at the booklet, which had many pictures of band members looking moody and the song titles being ‘Devoid’, ‘Consume’ and ‘Love to Hate.’ I did get the impression of ‘oh goody another band following in the vein of Bring Me The Horizon’ which does normally fill me with chills. However, when looking at their Myspace it seems that the vocalist Mark Duffy has some history with a pretty obscure band called Toranga that had some cult appeal in the early 1990’s supporting the likes of Manowar and Metal Church on European tours.

From what I guess Toranga were slightly thrash crossed with Death Metal and this trend seems to continue with Face The Unknown as there are elements off both styles contained on this self titled EP. The fast pace of the drumming provided by Wayne Senior, the low bass of Dan Berry, the solos of the lead guitar by Malcolm Spence (which I’m shocked I did not know about sooner, he does do a very good job!) and the growls verging on singing of Mark Duffy.

The three tracks give a very good indication of what is to come on their forthcoming album although I am worried that it may become a bit formulaic too quickly as whilst 'Devoid' and 'Consume' are good the only track that stands out to me is 'Love to Hate' which seems to get the formula just right.

The Face The Unknown self titled EP isa nice little taste for the future and if they can make more tracks like 'Love To Hate' I do expect a good future for them it’s just slightly tricky based solely on these three songs to make a really big decision about Face The Unkown as a whole yet.
