Natural Self - My Heart Beats Like A Drum [Album] The third release from Nathaniel Pearn’s (aka Kano-1) personal pet project Natural Self finds Pearn once again doing what he does best. A lil’ funk, some dubstep, and brass like a soul band. While Pearn has been keeping himself busy contributing to various notable artists work (Quantic, MC Abdominal, Nicole Willis, etc) he’s not lost the drive and passion for Natural Self that made previous albums great. “My Heart Beats Like A Drum” expands on concepts in “The Art Of Vibration” and “One Man’s weird is another man’s world,” but also stands alone as an incredible work of soul/funk record store culture. “The Shock You Heard” kicks off the album with a dubstep and world drumming flavor. “Days Get Brighter” features the horns of Fulvio Sigurta and Mark Hanslip, who’s work can be found all over “My heart beats like a drum”. The Latin inspired hand drumming of “Days get brighter” sinks in nicely with the horns helping to make an inspired, soulful sound. Some of the finest moments of “My heart beats like a drum” come from the additions of Elodie Rama (Hocus Pocus). We first hear her as backup vocals on “Believer”, but Rama soon moves to the foreground for “Midnight Sun”. Great horns, groovy dubstep, and terrific multi-tracked vocal harmonies from Elodie Rama make “Midnight Sun” my pick for a radio single on “My Heart Beats Like A Drum”. Again, on the title track, Rama and Pearn get down with a more hip-hop influenced sound. Smooth beats and solid production conspire to make “My Heart Beats Like A Drum” this year’s darling for soul / tech fans. Another superb album from Natural Self. |
Re: Natural Self - My Heart Beats Like A Drum [Album] Seems you got a good deal on the Album sendouts this time! Remember to pop up the albums record label in the "Byline" rather than you name buddy. |
Re: Natural Self - My Heart Beats Like A Drum [Album] I am getting quite good at picking what I think a reviewer will like these days based upon their past reviews. It's quite fun for me to give randoms to people and see them really enjoy the music. |
Let's see what's in my "goodie bag"... :) |
Re: Natural Self - My Heart Beats Like A Drum [Album] You would have seen by now had you put the right address on the envelope ;) Seriously though luckily I had used an envelope that came here to send it to you with a new piece of card taped over the original address. That is the only reason the post office got it back here otherwise they would be lost forever. |
I'm so sorry! My landlady actually spoke to the neighbours at 15, they remember it coming but because they didn't know me yet they sent it back... At least they didn't put them on EBay! |
Ah no worries, was just good luck that happened case theres nothing worse than losing CDs |
Re: Natural Self - My Heart Beats Like A Drum [Album] Yeah, I actually was completely unaware I was supposed to put the label name and find the album pic myself. Sorry for all the extra work. I'll start doing it right. I don't know about imbedding. I'll do what I can, but my comp skills are still pretty crap. |
Re: Natural Self - My Heart Beats Like A Drum [Album] reading this stream made me think that for marketing, it would be good/funny/optimistic if a band sent out a great number of copies of their cd single/album to completely random addresses. actual value junk mail. or maybe it would just be daft. |
