Los Albertos are a band that’s never let the party die early, and “Dish It Up” certainly goes down smooth with a pitcher of beer and a sunny day.
I’m not looking for emotional depth or a soulfully moving experience from an album like “Dish It Up”. Man, I’m just looking to shake my ass and have fun. Los Albertos once again provides the fun in spades. There’s really nothing like a skanking sound and some huge horns to brighten up my afternoon. Just drop all your cares and dance outside in the air and the sunshine and…you know what, fuck it. It’s so beautiful outside; I’ve got to get in on some of this. Los Albertos, you’ve convinced me to take a break.
So, it’s the next day. I’m back at it.
“Dish It Up” is an album for calling out of work, lounging about, and catching a show at some bar with. Tracks like 'Call in Sick' and 'Celebration' encourage a standard of lazy rebellion. A middle finger to the system while you lift your glass. Even the more serious romantic track 'Leslie' offers a portrait of love that involves air hockey, dancing, and amusement parks. A push is made by the songs protagonist for a more serious involvement, and is met with nothing but flippant dismissal and a desire to just have fun.
It’s exciting to hear a ska revival. As with music of upbeat intensity, and good vibrations, one can’t help but adopt a positive outlook on life whilst enjoying the sound. Also, the skank is the only dance I have ever learned. Well, that and the Macarena, but that’s another story! Hopefully, Los Albertos will be one party that never stops jumping.
Pick it up.
