The ticking of a clock signifying the passage of time is how Breed 77 have decided to kick off their first album in three years (if you don’t count the Spanish language album) with ‘Wake Up’ a song that signifies one particular message: Breed 77 have returned to mix their Spanish influenced sounds that many fans became converted to with Cultura (myself included).

There seems to be a dual concept throughout the entire album: half the album is about revolution and self discovery while the other half is about well, insects. As wacky as the latter may sound Breed 77 do use it to their advantage although the revolution songs as heard on the first three tracks works a lot better!

The guitar work is as you would expect for Breed 77. You will enjoy if you are a fan of Soulfly and their peers. Vocally I also noticed that there’s more harsh vocals this time around than on previous work. This to me is a weird change especially as I saw Breed 77 live a couple of years ago and really liked how the band sounded at that time (weirdly during the tour for the Spanish language album in which not a song was sung in Spanish!) My favourite track on insects is 'Revolution on my Mind.'

There is one thing that brings "Insects" down. Hands up those who remember the Cranberries? Hands up who remembers their track Zombie? Now I have been told by a few artists that in order to have a good cover version you need to make it different. In fact, the worst cover version I ever heard was Sign doing 'Run To The Hills' like it was an emo/ballad track. Breed 77's version of 'Zombie' is very similar to the original. I have heard Breed 77 do this cover version live and it does work but it does not work on record, the ‘jump’ moment is gone to me.

Overall "Insects" is a good comeback and if it wasn’t for the last track it would be a great one. They have a live tour soon which will equal a good time though so I hope people do go.
