Family Force 5 - Dance or Die [Album]

Family Force 5 - Dance or Die [Album]

Tooth and Nail Records

The Christian crunk band Family Force 5 is most well known for their instant-hit debut album “Business Up Front, Party in the Back,” but Family Force 5 have changed their approach for their new record, "Dance or Die." "Dance or Die" is a much more club oriented album and is filled with funky rhythms and infectious hooks with a futuristic aspect to it all. Lead guitarist Derek “Chap Stique” Mount says “Listening to Family Force 5 is like lighting a cluster of fireworks in your mouth.”

The five-some from Atlanta, Georgia are well known for being a Christian Crunk band and Family Force 5 are not afraid to be proud of their faith. The "Dance or Die" album was a big hit in the Christian community and there is speculation that the song 'D-I-E-4-Y-O-U,' was written about their faith. The Christian community praises Family Force 5 for making popular music while staying true to their values.

The title track, 'Dance or Die' is guaranteed to make your toes tap, or fingers snap. The electronic sound really makes itself apparent in songs like 'Get Your Back Off The Wall,' and 'Fever.' 'Radiator' made its name as the new dance anthem for the ages. Soul Glow Activatur’s raspy scream is noticeable in the songs 'D-I-E-4-Y-O-U' and 'Rip it up.' The tongue-in-cheek lyrics in 'Wake the Dead,' are sure to get one’s attention. The grungy, southern rock beats make themselves known throughout the whole album however, not all the songs on the album are encouraging the listener to shake what their mama gave them. 'The First Time,' is more restrained, but it’s evident that there is an urge to let go and get loud. The introduction to 'Share It with Me,' with the calm piano and drums is a pleasant change from the ear pounding beats on almost every other song.

As well as the songs, the members of this band are far from ordinary. With names like Soul Glow Activatur (vocals, rhythm guitar), Phatty (Bass, vocals), Crouton (drums, vocals), Nadaddy (Keytar, vocals) and Chap Stique (lead guitar), it’s hard to forget Family Force 5.

All in all, "Dance or Die" is an expertly crafted album with either lyrics or rhythms for everyone. Simply said, “You gotta dance or die.”
