The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] Novelty records are always fun to listen along to and maybe crack a smile. They are enjoyable for a while then they get a little tedious and usually end up being played by those tragic wedding DJ's at the end of the night. For TDLM (The Duckworth Lewis Method) these novelty songs make up the content of their whole album based around the game of cricket. It has become increasingly annoying to listen to the album in full duration. Each track isn't funny, at all. This may be due to the fact that I have no personal love for the game of cricket. In all fairness and reality though it is because it is pretty shit. Jokes and cracks about stumping wickets and hitting balls out of boundaries make a pathetic effort to amuse the listener. Maybe its just one of those albums that some people don't "get" and I'm definitely one of them. Musically there is a lot to keep you enthralled. 'The Age Of Revolution' features some funky horn samplings that are just begging to be hammered along with a hard drum beat, but no it creeps into a placid attempt at a pop song. Throughout the whole album there are snippets of quality musical originality that keep you in for the whole show. At moments it sounds like a Christmas album, then the soundtrack to Scrubs, it's just all over the place (in a bad way). If the lyrical material wasn't so irritating I think the lads from The Duckworth Lewis Method could have had something special on their hands. As it stands though they just had to go and ruin it with a silly "indie cricket concept album" that just begs to be ripped from the player. ![]() |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] I can imagine this being shit - The Divine Comedy are just not my cup of cha at all. |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] Agreed Heron. How on earth could a "concept" album about cricket be any good anyway? It's just a shit idea by the remnants of a has been band that were shit in the first place. |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] Yeah it's a bit of a ridiculous idea. |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] You checked their myspace out? Try and have a listen. |
I'd rather not. The photo is enough for me. |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] You're all Welsh and that, innit? You just wouldn't understand... "Jokes and cracks about stumping wickets and hitting balls out of boundaries make a pathetic effort to amuse the listener. " Are these supposed to be euphemisms? If not, then I don't know how it could be an attempt to amuse anyone. They seem pleasant enough. Not my cup of tea, either, but maybe don't deserve the bollocking you gave them. Quirky strange guitar pop is quite popular at the moment, with bands like Half-man-half-biscuit making quite a name for themselves. |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] The majority of people on here are English actually. It is only me and a couple of others that are Welsh. |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] Yup! Nottingham through and through boi! |
Re: The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method [Album] Yeah I am Engslish too and do quite like cricket sometimes, but it has no place in music and having now listened to this band I can confirm that they are really rather terrible. |
