Giant Jr. is genius. Pure, downright, indisputable genius. "Wherever You Are In The World Here Are Your Directions Home" marks my first experience in the electronica genre, the CD has not left my car since I received it, no lie.
Giant Jr. has just two members, Miami born Jyl Millard and London born David Rainger. The album also features a few other guest artists. The guest artists really take the album from average to excellent. They provide a great break from Millard’s vocals helping break the typical monotony found in electronica albums.
"Wherever You Are In The World Here Are Your Directions Home" features 14 awesome and unique tracks that never seem to get old. Every one of them oozes with originality and musicality, a perfect blend of pop sensibility and funky futuristic beats. From the poppy love song 'No. 1 Fan' to the rocking 'Viva Rock Vegas' Giant Jr. has struck gold with its latest effort. Anyone who has ever longed for the type of relationship found only in romantic comedy films will relate to the all encompassing question in the track 'Hairgrip,' “why can’t romance be like TV? We fall in love, it’s all so easy!” 'I Want To Be Evil' is the collective sound of every “good girl” who longs for a more risqué kind of life. Even the elegantly simple cover of 'All Summer Long,' made famous by The Beach Boys, doesn’t seem at all out of place but blends perfectly with the other forward-thinking tracks.
If you’re big into the electronica genre, you probably already know Giant Jr. If you’re like me and you’d never heard of these guys until now, they definitely deserve a listen. For a start, check out the three tracks below.
My Three Faves
-
Viva Rock Vegas: This song is packed with energy and simplicity. When listening to this track, go loud it’s totally worth it.
-
No. 1 Fan: A catchy and refreshing take on love. “I’ll be your number one fan, and you can be mine.”
-
Rock Yo Space: The best use of “na na na” since who knows when. Rock Yo Space is downright catchy. Enough said.
