After showcasing an absolutely blinding mini-album "They Call It The Easy Life" into the Screamo rock world, Deaf Havana meet us half way with their debut album and it's a bit of a beast. Actually screw that, what I actually mean is that it is a monster of a beast! The energetic five piece from Kings Lynn haven't lost their edge and haven't pussied out when spending more quality time in the studio although there are a few moments where its seems that they have added a softer touch to their vocals. It's been a year in the making and the material is brutal, fast paced, exciting and emotional.
The harmonies are impeccable, the riffs are ear crunching and the structure is simple. All of these qualities make "Meet Me Half Way" a top heavy rock album for 2009, not bad for such a young band. We see the same aesthetic in this album as we did for "They Call It The Easy Life," Deaf Havana's sound has been done many times over yet it still has that unique touch.

You find yourself uncontrollably pushing your own vocal chords to unknown territory, trying to follow James' mental high noted vocal patterns. Opener 'This Town Is Ours' grabs your brain and makes it sing along to the chorus of "We're gonna keep, sleeping on these rooftops." The same goes for 'Friends Like These' that just makes you sing "You'll never know, friends like these." All credit goes out to guitarist and vocal insane artist James Veck-Gilodi (what a name too), who just provides stunning performances throughout "Meet Me Halfway".
The only downside to the album is a few times the track's slip into Fallout Boy territory, especially at the beginning of '3 Cheers For The Easy Life.' These are the only moments of weakness and are easily pushed aside with some interesting features. The outro to '3 Cheers For The Easy Life' takes the same lyrics from 'They Call It The Easy Life' but in a faster pace, and it works bloody well. It was one of those moments whilst listening where I was thinking "I'm sure I have heard that somewhere before." Alexisonfire sounds creep into each track in their own unique powerful way; fast pace and thundering rhythms all play their part. "Meet me Half Way" is the ultimate hard rockin' package.
Deaf Havana have grown into the ultimate fighter of menacing rock foreplay. They tease, make you sing, make you dance and then finish you off with no regrets. Well done lads, keep em' cumming!
