The Mire - Volume: 1 [2 Track CD]

The Mire were formed from the now defunct sludge post metal band Bossk and tech metalcore unit Centurion. Volume 1 is the first release and contains only 2 tracks, ‘Wheelwalker’ and ‘Fears’. But don’t fret, you will not have to shell out your hard earned cash for only two tracks, The Mire will be giving them away for free! Which is ridiculous.

Let me start by saying that anyone who owns a Bossk album will be used to paying for a CD to find that it only has 2 tracks on it and then not caring due to the sheer quality of the content. The Mire have encapsulated that same quality and power and let me point out that this is only a demo release and not a full release.

Lets get down to the sound, the first track ‘Wheelwalker’ starts will a slow building guitar, nice and simple and not trying to be anything too clever. It just gets you slowly nodding your head and feeling the groove. The beauty of the track is its simplicity. The vocals are powerful and production is big. The vocals range from low growls to melodic ambient overtones, which helps to create a great atmospheric sound. The second track, ‘Fears’ has more singing in it and has a more Devil Sold His Soul element to it. The vocals harmonise to make a powerful sound, before the deep screams slam you back in to pure head banging bliss, at it’s sludgy, groovy best.

To place the sound for you The Mire sound like a cross between Shels*, Bossk, Cult of Luna and Devil Sold His Soul, flirting with the best bits of each. Unlike Bossk and Cult of Luna the tracks aren’t 10-20 minutes beasts and are a more manageable 6 minutes, which means when The Mire get around to writing a whole album you will get a stonking 8-10 of these bad boys! I honestly can’t wait to hear more, these first two tracks are so good and considering they are only their first demos it makes Volume 1 even better.

Volume 1 will be available to download through the Eyeofsound website on the 19/10/09 or you can go on the bands Myspace to hear the track ‘Wheelwaker’ now, which I recommend you do.
