Relient K - Forget and Not Slow Down [Album] 1 Attachment(s) What do Relient K front man Matthew Thiessen and Henry David Thoreau have in common? Both men found greatness through solitude and ample time for introspection. Thoreau secluded himself to a modest cabin in Massachusetts in 1845 for a little more than two years. During that time he penned his thoughts and feelings into what eventually became a best-selling book. Thiessen secluded himself to a Tennessee lake house for three months and penned his thoughts and feelings into the 15 track break-up masterpiece that is Forget and Not Slow Down, the latest album in the Relient K discography that includes five full-length albums (three certified gold) and five EPs. Traditionally, Relient K has been known for positive up-beat songs laden with catchy hooks and pure pop-punk melodies; music that will leave a smile on your face and recharge that emotional battery in your heart. Songs like ‘Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been,’ ‘Up and Up’ and ‘The Lining Is Silver’ are great examples. "Forget and Not Slow Down" continues this awesome tradition and Relient K sounds better than ever. ‘Forget and Not Slow Down,’ the album’s opening track and lead single, starts the theme of the album off in the right way. Lines like, “I’d rather forget and not slow down than gather regret for the things that I can’t change now” and “I could spend my life trying to sift through what I could have done better but what good do what-ifs do?” offer the optimism most of us often need to overcome our regrets. ‘Therapy’ puts the listener in the passenger seat of Thiessen’s emotional ride as he sorts through the personal angst of a break-up with a loved one. ‘Candlelight’ is a pure unabashed love song in which Thiessen employs his classic “pun driven” lyric writing in a chorus that proclaims, “She outshines anyone whoever might date to bask in the same candlelight.” ‘Part Of It’ shows us the peace of mind that eventually comes with a break-up, “It’s not the end of the world, just you and me…perspective is a lovely hand to hold.” Forget And Not Slow Down is a pleasure to listen to. Relient K has managed to maintain its signature while still branching out and presenting a fresh, refined, and organic sound that will keep the CD spinning for many years to come. ![]() Photo by David Bean |
Re: Relient K - Forget and Not Slow Down [Album] Sweet review Taylor but although you break the songs down there is never one mention of why exactly this makes for a near perfect album. Either way nice work as always. |
