Sweethead - The Great Disruptors [Single]

The newly formed Sweethead hit you with their debut single ‘The Great Disruptors.’ Sweethead are formed of Troy Van Leuuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, Norm Block and Eddie Nappi from the Mark Lanegan Band and new to the scene vocalist Serrina Sims. On first impression the sound is good and Serrina's vocals are strong and reminiscent of Courtney love in parts. The riffs are very simple with the bass playing a straight forward part all the way through and the guitar following it most of the time whilst also augmenting it with random Queens of the Stone Age style licks interspersed here and there.

There is nothing original here, with the bands sound heavily coloured with the sounds of Sweethead’s members previous bands. The video adds a lot to the song, mainly through Serrina’s looks, which I’m not complaining about! Sweethead are currently on tour with fellow Queens of the Stone Age band mate Joey Castillo’s current touring act The Eagles Of Death Metal, who’s original drummer - also a Queens Of The Stone Age member - Josh Homme, is off with Them Crooked Vultures.

So worth a listen but the next single needs to be a lot better otherwise Sweethead will always have to live in the shadow of bands past.

What's the connection between Eagles of Death Metal and Queens of the Stone Age Marc?

Didn't he mention that in his review?

Not really no otherwise I wouldn't have asked! He mentions a connection but I want to know more information.

Yes he does - it's here:

"Sweethead are currently on tour with fellow Queens of the Stone Age band mate Joey Castillo’s current touring act The Eagles Of Death Metal, who’s original drummer - also a Queens Of The Stone Age member - Josh Homme, is off with Them Crooked Vultures."

Originally Eagles of Death Metal featured Josh Homme and Jessy the Devil hughes. I can't remember whether or not the bass player was included as an actual member. But Nowadays Josh Homme doesn't really have much to do with the band in a live context and hasn't for a long time, hence why Joey is currently earning his bread and butter in Josh's place. The only real member then is Jessy, and having seen them play a few months back at Brixton I was massively disappointed at how much the show was just about him.

Jessy is the guitarist right? That's why I was curious cause I hung out with him last time I was in NYC. One of my mates there is good friends with his GF. Just trying to figure out how close I am to knowing Josh hahahaha.

You hung with Jessy? Cool - that's very close to Josh indeed.

Did he have his handlebar moutache then?

altsounds October 22, 2009 12:45 PM

Don't think it was the handlebar but he did have a big tash. He was flying
out to London the next day to do some ladies only show in London or
something so was having a night out with his lady and friends before jetting
off. They even played an EOD in the bar haha, so he was up there dancing to
his own shit.
