New Listenable Records’ signees The Red Shore are here to hit you with the brutal wall of noise that is "Unconsecrated." The vocals are brutal guttural screams and pig squeals that go "bree bree bree" all the way home. The guitars are dirty and heavily detuned, they sound big but are a touch too fuzzy for my liking. The riffs vary from low-end chugging, harmony lead riffs to metalcore / thrash style picky riffs, but in general they tend to stick to the low end stuff.
From the word go "Unconsecrated" intends to bat the living shit out of you and doesn’t intend to stop until it’s done, or until there is no more space on the CD. The sound is harsh and full on and is brilliant when you are in the mood. But the problem with "Unconsecrated" is that there is no real break, it just seems to steam along for the duration and after a few tracks, the riffs that I thought sounded pretty cool had been recycled to a point where I couldn’t really define which song was which, especially when "Unconsecrated" is 19 tracks long. It’s really disappointing when I was taken in so easily and then lost again.
It’s such a waste when you’ve got a band that sound good but just don’t have the songs. The Red Shore needs to take a leaf from The Black Dahlia Murders book and add some definition. Death Metal can be so powerful and due to everything being so fast and distorted it is very easy to form a mush and The Red Shore have done just that.
To sum up, if one or two tracks from "Unconsecrated" came on I’d happily listen through but definitely not the whole album. So sad after they offered such potential early on.
