Hmmmm. Can I take this all seriously. I know that Saltatio Mortis probably do, so I should probably do the same. Saltatio Mortis are what they call a medieval metal band. They are from Germany and "Wer Wind Saet" is their ninth album, which says something for the genre. Saltatio Mortis sing in German, which may explain where their key target market is. The sound does have that very European metal feel to it with that kind of extravagance and theatrical nature.
Saltatio Mortis have a typical metal band make up with the addition of various pipes and medieval instruments. The production is really good and the various instrument they use gives Saltatio Mortis an interesting sound. The vocals are of a really high standard and while the genre may be new to an English or American market, "Wer Wind Saet" is of a high enough standard that you can listen even with language. "Wer Wind Saet" has some really good high points; tracks like album opener ‘Ebenbild’ and ‘Letzte Worte’ have great choruses. The melodies and harmonies really get going in those two tracks.
While "Wer Wind Saet" has some really strong tracks, the album also has a lot of average moments and whilst the production and playing is of a high standard the quality is not consistent all the way through. If you are a fan of this style then you will really enjoy "Wer Wind Saet" but for listeners that are not used to the style and also the language, then only the key songs may appeal, but those key songs are well worth a listen.
