Nosound’s latest release “A Sense Of Loss” is an interesting effort. After listening to the album over and over again it has been difficult to put my finger on what the point of the album really is. It’s easy to hear the band’s influences of No-Man, Porcupine Tree, and maybe even a little Pink Floyd. Nosound also lists one of its influences as Genesis. If that’s true I had a heck of a time picking out any similarities.

Truth be told, listening to “A Sense Of Loss” was pure drudgery. Musically most of the songs meander through what seem like endless progressions and painstakingly dull melodies. Lyrically I had a very difficult time even understanding the words to the songs. The Italian accent of front man Giancarlo Erra is partly to blame but it’s mostly due to the intentionally subtle and distorted production of the vocals on every track.

Overall “A Sense Of Loss” is filled with six songs that last way too long. They never really seem to make a point. ‘Winter Will Come’ has a running time of 15:39, it seems like it's never going to end for fucks sake! And even though the rest of the tracks are short by comparison, they would benefit from being a lot shorter too. These tracks seem like they would be more fitting in a live show, not a studio album. They lack organization and direction and are more suited as background music.

On the bright side of things the band members in Nosound have a solid grasp on their instruments as they are beautifully played on every track. That being said, this is not an album I would recommend.

I know you're not supposed to do this but I always do but based on their photos and Myspace imagery they look like they are going to be bad.

Heron-as always your astuteness amazes me...you're right, my speakers weren't even working the day I listened to this album! haha...
If only it were true. This is one of those albums you listen to and wish you could have your time back...

Oh wait, wait - I got another one...

Nosound? Did they cover 'The Sound of Silence' by Simon & Garfunkle?

Hahahahahaaaa - classic.
