Interestingly enough the newest recruit to the back catalogue of impenetrable singles from Biffy Clyro; "The Captain" has received an unprecedented amount of poor feedback. It is by no means on the same level as 'Mountains' but still bestows the unstoppable three piece with another hint of what lies ahead from their fifth studio album "Our Revolutions."
This time the band have acquired a more radio friendly sound. The foundations of a Biffy constructed song are still in there, but this wreaks of radio foreplay. In fact, it smells like Zane Lowe. Christ there is even a brass section in there, what next, Radio 2? Put aside the lubed up kitten side of 'The Captain' and you will find the same guitar hooks, powerful drum structure and that ever present accented vocal pattern. Somehow Biffy manage to write lyrics to sing too in each of their singles. 'The Captain' is no exception, with the outro of repeated "Let's lock death away" harmonized in that annoyingly catchy way (at first listen "Let's lock death away" actually sounded like "lets smoke death away" - which would be a lot cooler).
Avid fans will be disheartened this time, but lets wait until their revolution comes to play, then we will see who's 'The Captain'.
