I think you have to firstly have an appreciation for dance music and disco to appreciate Daft Punk. Not necessarily a love for them, but you have to have a feel what they are about - you have to want to be moved physically for a start.

If you are the sort of 'bloke' who stands on the edges of a dancefloor clutching your '2 for £3' bottles of Carling, staring bitterly...forlornly...envious ly at guys like Chris and I shaking our asses, to 'Technologic', surrounded by beautiful women, then yeah you might not get them.

I like the sound of the beautiful women bit though, but I guess I was never a huge fan of Disco or dance....Punk ruined me

I would agree with Mike on this one, I love Daft Punk because I also love
dance music and during my early music buying career it involved buying vinyl
and where I lived it was much easier to tget dance records on vinyl than it
was rock records. This was my introduction to daft punk and from the run of
the mill 4 on the floor bolloxs that existed Daft Punk were one of the few
getting truly creative with what many might have perceived as a boring
genre.

Listen to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14xgbeHsJXI and tell me you
don't love this song. It's got the right amount of rock and dance in one
track. Plus I don;t know where you got the vocoder thing from, most of Daft
Punk's tracks are instrumental so they are FAR from what you have perceived
them to be. Don't be put off because Kanye West sampled them.

Watch "Da Funk" too. Same Dog in NYC. It's funny how the video is completely original to the song in that Fresh video. The song doesn't have any of the dialogue it's just the instrumental music in the background.

Da Funk is brilliant. That was my first introduction to Daft Punk and I've loved them ever since. The video is excellent, although I always found it quite sad.

It's fantastic how the actual track is in the background though - it just works really well. Not sure who directed that but they did an excellent job.

After looking at the evidence presented I admit I was wrong , I now stand before you chastened and ashamed. I now am starting to view Daft Punk through very different eyes and ears.
