‘"We're Fake Problems and were from Naples, Florida!’"
Judging by the start of this band it is apparent that you could not get further from this nights predecessor ‘Beans on Toast’ whose honest outlook on Britain’s current state and stripped down musicianship won the crowd over from the start.
Fake Problems open with a quirky, easy pleasing crowd mover that has clear references to the sound of Kings Of Leon & Artic Monkeys; with stomping drums and a guitar sound similar to that of Keith Richards, Fake Problems clearly fit in with the current climate of popular rock music. The second track is clearly the bands secret weapon; it ticks all the boxes to win a crowd over; sing-a-long chorus???? Check. Strong backing vocals???? T Check…. Catchy slash sounding guitar riff???? Check.
By now it is clear that Fake Problems are a band that has the musicianship and closeness to gel well as a band. Plus their lyrical content ain't bad either- "Well o well, Here I am, we where born, in our mothers arms."
The set continues to impress thoroughly with tracks that include handclaps and great funk grooves. With guitar work not only similar to John Frusciantes Blood Sugar Sex Magic Days but also great technical skill similar to that of Jo Satriani. There is also an interesting break in the set where the bassist actually starts juggling; an original concept to bring the fun of the circus within the gig experience and it really captures the joy of witnessing a band like Fake Problems live, unfortunately the juggling was not as good as the bassists fret work, but hey it got us laughing! Unfortunately the last song of the night was also probably the weakest. It seemed to build up and build up but without an explosion, not leaving a great impression to the end of the set but still showed the great skill of the band.
Fake Problems where clearly a band that impress well and leave the audience asking for more. At the end of the night it was amazing to see the amount of Fake Problems T-shirts walking out of the venue.
Fake Problems live sound was a perfect blend of Rock and
Roll, Funk and even Country and by the time they had finished their set I had realised that I had discovered a great new band; I could recommend these guys to anybody. An amazing set from a great bunch of talented musicians.
