Young and Lost Club
Here's a single from young London folk-pop fellow Alan Pownall. It's called 'Clara' and skiffles along like sunshine falling on a prancing kitten.
Alan has an expressive voice giving 'Clara' and B side 'The Others' a cozy depth that pulls you along with the trick free tunage. It's classic song writing, especially on 'Clara,' with a familiarity that immediately strikes a chord. Occasionally that can detract from the individuality of a song but Alan has managed to dodge that bullet here.
'The Others' takes a more river side stroll approach as opposed to 'Clara''s bounding along the boardwalk and Alan's voice gets all smoky and wistful, complimenting the nostalgic strings. Oh look! There's Ratty and Mole, let's stop for a picnic.
All in all it's a good release and a nice introduction to a talented chap who could well take off in a Kate Nash way if he's got the hunger for it.
