What a terrible disappointment. Usually bands disappear off the face of the earth for a little while then come back and smash up the place with their new sound and style. From the sounds of 'Joy Kicks Darkness,' Ash have done sweet FA. That is apart from making some quirky single release schedule PR.
Opening up 'Joy Kicks Darkness' with an intro that actually excites and draws you in a little; a small tickley rumble on the bass and guitar followed by a snare drum roll. The whole atmosphere is then pissed on from a height with the Feeder'esque that comes in with all the "Ooh's" and stereotypically bullshit guitars. BTW and for the record, Feeder are better than Ash.
Oh and don't forget to cue the cheesy little solo, I would rather inhale a crushed wosit that listen to 'Joy Kicks Arkness' one more time. Ash I would suggest that you put yourselves back on the back-burner and re-think this new strategy you have and try next time to give use the all important thing we are all searching for called "Good Music."
