The Terrodactyls are a duo comprised of Tyrel Stendahl and Michael Cadiz. Their self-titled, debut album was recorded by correspondence from two different coasts, Cadiz from Seattle and Stendahl from Brooklyn. Despite being recorded from two sides of the country the album sounds as if it were recorded in the same room.

Originally released in 2007, this new release features the same tracks as the original release except for ‘Baltimore’ and four bonus tracks. Musically these songs are very simple. They feature acoustic guitars, simple drum beats, and other computer generated synthesizer and electronica-esque beats, the latter of which really stands out on the ‘Shipping’ remix, one of the bonus tracks.

Lyrically the songs are fun and comical, intentionally so, of course. In fact, if you are in search of a folk meets stand up comedy style of music, search no more! The Terrodactyl’s do it better than anyone I’ve ever heard. ‘Zombie Girl’ is the world’s first love song about zombies, pretty hilarious. ‘Facelift’ chronicles a quest to build a face for a girl who doesn’t have one.


The Terrodactyl’s debut album scores a perfect 10 in my book for creativity. Stendahl and Cadiz have created something very unique and original. Nothing else I’ve heard sounds like it. On the downside the songs all sound the same. It was a little rough listening to the entire album through multiple times, a little more diversity would have been nice. All in all this was a good effort.
