Back in 2005, four lads decided enough was enough with their respective bands, No Comply and The Once Over Twice and formed a new band, Crazy Arm, in the hope of one day getting them and their new music, not only noticed but liked as well. Fast-forward to 2009 and Crazy Arm have managed to achieve just that. With a band of loyal fans and successful tours with Random Hand and Sonic Boom Six, Crazy Arm have created a whirlwind of attention around them, from not only fans but from critics alike. Their debut album “Born To Ruin” gained them critical acclaim from supposed music critic heavyweights Rock Sound and Kerrang and 2010 sees the Plymouth quartet embarking on tour with Folk-Punk favorites Chuck Ragan and tour headliner Frank Turner. Their new single “Henry Fabian Flynn” is the second and newest single to be taken from “Born To Ruin” and what a single it is.
From the fast paced guitar snippets and the wonderful vocal work on the behalf of lead singer Darren Johns, 'Henry Fabian Flynn' is a track that epitomizes Crazy Arm’s sound; fast paced punk with folk edge stylings. The punk side of things is very much in the guitar work, which is sharp and snappy, whilst the drums cruise alongside setting the pace and keeping the tone. As for the folk side of things this is evident mostly in lyrics. Focusing on reinventing yourself and turning your life around, words such as “to seize the day” and “never to be broken again,” wouldn’t be frowned upon in either songs by Crazy Arm’s soon to be tour friends Mr. Turner or Monsieur Ragan and its these type of lyrics that inject some folk trimmings into the mix.
However, although 'Henry Fabian Flynn' is a fast paced track it isn’t one of the heaviest songs they have written but this doesn’t hinder the music in any way and 'Henry Fabian Flynn' still manages to maintain all the punk rock essence that have made Crazy Arm so popular in recent times. English punk rock has really come into its own recently, with the likes of Random Hand gaining critical aplomb and Sonic Boom Six infiltrating the main stage at 09’s Leeds Festival, surely then in 2010 Crazy Arm will be able to capitalize on their recent good grace and join the likes of the above in the English Punk ranks.
With great songs like 'Henry Fabian Flynn' it certainly would be a crime if this doesn’t end up being the case.
