Aaah the three minute pop song – where would we be without it? Listening to nothing but Mogwai, Sun0))) and Sigur Ros, that’s where. Of course listening to those bands should be a prerequisite, but only in reasonably sized doses. The rest of the time we want to sing and dance like nobody is watching don’t we? Well I do anyway and to that end pop music simply can’t be beaten as was proven last weekend down my local discothèque when I danced hardest of all to ‘Eight Days a Week.’ You wanna see how much a good pop song moves me – you REALLY do (you just don’t know it yet).

And so it is with ‘Adultery’ by one this country’s most exciting new bands, the decidedly danceable Little Comets. It’s very British, it’s very tuneful and it’s very bloody good. We may have fallen behind the yanks when it comes to many musical genres and styles, but we still hold our own when it comes to proper pop – not that awful tosh that falls out of the arse of many of our chart-fodder’s songwriters – I mean the great little rays of sunshine that our bands have always produced since The Beatles were knocking them out, well...eight days a week.

These four Geordie lads also sum up the rather nasty human habit of infidelity in an endearingly succinct way; “This is a tale/Of a boy of a man/Of a girl of a wife/For putting your hands/Into trousers and knickers/Can destroy a life”. That said, these very words may be tested for sincerity when they are huge and models are throwing themselves at them left right and centrefold. Hope they’re single lads.
