Released shortly before Christmas last year, 'Christmas Time is Here Again' is Zang Production's attempt to get to number one and is the latest in a long line of safe, family friendly, background fitting seasonal songs filling up December's radio playlist.

Recorded by the Zang Family - the complete line-up from grass-roots label Zang Productions - it's a typical Christmas song; a simple message, musically all nice and easy and frankly, quite forgettable. With their soft voices, peaceful harmonies and the often repeated title the Ensemble doesn't do you any harm.

Sadly, it fails to come up with the originality required to get noticed in the everlasting stream of becoming a seasonal classic. It lacks the pompousness of Phil Spector's Christmas recordings, the original melancholic approach of Mud's 'Lonely This Christmas' and the upbeat catchiness of Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas'. Except for the obvious Christmas message the music is more in line with the typical married indiepop harmony duo and the main problem is just that it fails to catch on.

Nevertheless, its non-adventurousness and its quality to fill the background insignificantly but pleasantly will without a doubt attract an audience. Most likely it's going to be a small audience, considering the amount of new Christmas songs taking over the radio every December. Still, despite its lack of imagination the song does embrace the peacefulness most of us want to feel in times like that and with that in mind, 'Christmas Time is Here Again' does what it needs to do.

A number one spot might be a bit too much to ask for but with a little luck the song will slowly find its way to the radio stations from this year on, when Christmas time will be there again.
