Bless Beats Feat. Charlie Brown & Wiley - The Rain [Single]

Bless Beats Feat. Charlie Brown & Wiley - The Rain [Single]

Blatant Swagger

Hitting up the UK grime scene with bags of style and spine tingling bass lines is "grimes hardest working producer" Bless Beats. This guy is responsible for one of the most over played tunes in 2007, but we all love him for it. 'Wearin My Rolex' fulfilled a gap in the music scene to no avail, teaming up with Wiley to pounce all over it and crash the scene.

From a producer working off his own back from an early age it's pretty obvious that developing your own unique sound is compulsory. This shows through during the 'The Rain - Bless Beats Remix' - featuring that dub bass line that is oh so familiar. Lyrically this guy and Charlie Brown are definitely "Blessed" delivering some unique vocal patterns and stunning rhymes - "Remember Gene Kelly sang a danced in the rain, I can't feel happy like Kelly in the rain. Dis' pain in my brain, I need an umbrella can Rhianna come save me, come save me from the rain." Using autotune is pretty standard for recent releases, 'The Rain' is no different, yet it holds it back within the overall mix and doesn't dominate. Bless' R&B influenced vocal approach is just enough to keep you occupied but doesn't delve into L.L Cool J territory, or even worse, Craig David.

Punchy beats kick through along with some synth jabs making 'The Rain' a top notch song to add to Bless Beats growing portfolio. Wiley and Charley Brown (no not Snoopy's owner) make an appearance throughout adding an extra texture into the mixture.

Somewhat lacking in diversity is the 'The Rain Wizzy Wow Remix' that does absolutely nothing but drop this rating slightly, it's a pointless remix sounding like a chipmunk trapped in box being pushed down the stairs step-by-step whilst Wizzy Wow shouts "splash"? This is the dark side to R&B/Dub/Hip Hop, the shit minimalist bit we try to avoid.

If your looking for something to whet your appetite for a few listens then whack this on your playlist, but don't come to me when your soaked.
