Who are Lower Than Atlantis? They are a band whose name has been circulating on the music scene for a few years now and when they do get featured, it is always in a promising and positive light. Touring with the likes of I Am Ghost, Your Demise, Deaf Havana (label buddies) and a host of other bands and sharing similar national success. With their latest album ‘Far Q’ soon to be released, Radio One DJ’s Daniel P Carter and Zane Lowe have already taken the opportunity to feature songs in advance of this.
The song they are releasing as their debut single from this album is entitled ‘Taping Songs Off The Radio’ and it is set to be the benchmark track ahead of all others. Anybody who isn’t familiar with Lower Than Atlantis will know that the vocal delivery may well appear unusual, however I am all for more unique vocal styles and this is immediately recognisable as a Lower Than Atlantis song. I had to put 'Taping Songs Off The Radio' on a number of times to truly appreciate it and lasting just short of three minutes makes it feel as if it is over far too soon. 'Taping Songs Off The Radio' could have definitely benefited from an additional minute of content in my opinion. The guitar work has been kept relatively basic, using an arrangement of muted power chords, assisted on occasion by higher pitch bends and short runs. I am not hugely convinced by the sound of the drum kit, as it feels a little distant for my liking. However, it is audible and is suitably simplistic to meet the requirements of the Lower Than Atlantis sound.

When 'Taping Songs Off The Radio' appears amongst a host of others on the new album I believe it will be better placed to receive more praise, but I give my support for this as the debut single nonetheless.
With an upcoming Radio One Rock Show live session at Maida Vale studio on February 26th 2010, this band are definitely ones to watch in the near future and this repeat radio interest is representative of that.
