After the Ordeal - The End Never Comes [Single]

After the Ordeal - The End Never Comes [Single]

Cover up Records

After The Ordeal are a five piece band who were formed in Kent in August 2008. The band makes Post Hardcore music and have been very successful in their limited life. In June 2009 the band won the Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition and had a set streamed from their bedroom to the live crowd at Download Festival that year. They have also released an EP and have a follow up on the way.

‘The End Never Comes’ is their latest single and also features two tracks that will be featured on the forthcoming EP in the form of ‘Into The Dark’ and ‘I Believe in You’.

Lets start with the single itself shall we? ‘The End Never Comes’ starts with Bloc Party esque guitar riffing and is punctuated by Emo style vocals, duelling guitar harmonies kick in and you already know what your in for. This is cookie cutter Post Hardcore Emo that sounds like a lot of bands already on the scene and is reminiscent of bands like Matchbook Romance and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. The lyrics are quite obvious and are about a broken relationship which they allude to being violent. Domestic abuse even if implied is a subject that should be handled with care but obviously After The Ordeal never got that memo as they throw ever cliché they can into the mix and hope something sticks. After The Ordeal even throws in a few screams to really drive the point home.

This approach to things carries over onto the other two tracks ‘Into the Dark’ and ‘I Believe In You’. Sadly After The Ordeal seem to be stuck in the Emo songwriting 101 mould as both songs follow the same pattern as the single and there really isn't all that much difference between them. They all follow the exact same formula which becomes largely repetitive. It’s a shame because After The Ordeal have had a promising start to their young careers. It would be nice to see them bring their songwriting ability up a level and really prove they deserve the opportunities people want to give them.
