The first thing to point out is that I have no idea who Limozine are, even though I have seen their name around MySpace on my travels. Looking at the front cover art, I am expecting a retro, classic sound from the guys. A two track single is all I have to rely on to base my decision on their musical worth.
‘Mutiny Girl’ starts off with a clean guitar sound, focused on short sharp chord changes, before the vocals enter the soundscape; although the production leaves me battling to hear one element over the other. The drumming is a little Beach Boys in places, with fast rolls around the toms, which are consequently deep and powerful as they rumble in the background. This song has some bounce and keeps a cheeky-chappy approach, although at times it feels a little busier than I would like. Perhaps a more refined version of this song might have come across better?
‘She Rocka Rolla’ is a little more 80’s and punk-rock in its style and sound. In many respects, this sounds like a different band when compared to ‘Mutiny Girl’. Carefully planned guitar playing and hi-hat heavy drumming allows a trundling bass to explore simple riffs throughout, with a vocal that is more assured and clearly understood.
Out of the two songs, Limozine come across better with ‘She Rocka Rolla’.
